What’s in my camera bag – Paulo Albuquerque

My name is Paulo Albuquerque, I am 35 years old and I live in Geneva, Switzerland. I found in photography a rewarding form of expression and communication. For me, it is a way of documenting everyday life and travel, focusing mainly on street photography, urban architecture and “lifestyle” images.

What truly fascinates me is being able to capture simple scenes and moments from our daily lives in a spontaneous way, which so often go unnoticed in the rush that life has become.

In another sense, photography connects generations, preserves emotions and tells visual stories, bringing with it a wide range of feelings.

For some time, I had been looking for a carrying solution that was genuinely practical for everyday use. I did not want a traditional camera bag, heavy and obvious. I wanted something discreet but trendy, that I could use on a quick walk or on a night out, and that would hold the essentials, my camera and my personal items. It was through Instagram that I discovered the Loulex brand. Their waist bags seemed perfect for this minimalist approach, I ordered one and I have no regrets. Take a look @loulex.eu

Nowadays, my Loulex waist bag has become an extension of my body. It is impressive what I can carry inside it, while keeping the bag compact and light for everyday use.

The Photographic Equipment:

The star of the bag is my Fujifilm kit. I use the Fujifilm X-T50. It is the perfect camera for this setup, small and light, but with the same sensor and performance as its larger siblings. The fact that it has a dedicated Film Simulation dial is fantastic for quickly changing the mood.

The X-T50 is almost always paired with the new kit lens, the XF 16-50mm f/2.8-4.8 R LM WR. This lens was a surprise. It is incredibly compact, without an extending barrel, weather sealed, and the autofocus is very fast. The versatility of this focal range, 24mm to 75mm in full frame, is all I need to capture everything from urban landscapes to street portraits.

Extra Accessories and Everyday Essentials:

Surprisingly, in the same waist bag, alongside the camera and lens already mounted for quick use, I can carry everything I need for the rest of the day. What I bring with me:

  1. My wallet and keys, the absolute essentials.
  2. AirPods, for a soundtrack while I walk.
  3. A spare battery, W126S, you never know when the perfect opportunity appears.
  4. A USB-C cable for an SD card reader. This is the most important accessory. I love the process of transferring photos, especially JPEGs with film simulations, to my iPhone right after shooting, to do a quick edit or share on Instagram. It is an immediate and enjoyable workflow.

For me, this kit proves that practicality and style can go hand in hand.
