TTArtisan brings its compact AF 75mm f/2 Portrait Prime to Fujifilm X mount

Fujifilm photographers now have another affordable portrait tool in their arsenal: the TTArtisan AF 75mm f/2, which has just been launched for the X Mount system. Having debuted last year for Sony E and Nikon Z mounts, and more recently L-Mount, this marks the first time that users of Fuji’s APS-C mirrorless cameras can take advantage of this compact autofocus lens.

On Fujifilm’s crop-sensor bodies, the 75mm focal length equates to an effective 112.5mm, sitting neatly within the traditional portrait range. This makes it ideal for flattering headshots, upper-body compositions, and images where subject separation and background blur are key creative elements.

Build and Handling

Despite being a metal-bodied lens with a dedicated aperture control ring, the TTArtisan AF 75mm f/2 remains pleasingly portable. It measures just 74 mm in length and weighs only 326 g, striking a balance between solid construction and everyday usability. It also accepts common 62 mm screw-in filters, making it practical for use with ND or polarising glass.

Optical Design

Internally, the optical formula consists of 10 elements arranged in 7 groups, featuring one extra-low dispersion element to suppress chromatic aberrations and four high-refractive index elements to enhance clarity and contrast. The design is complemented by a nine-blade rounded aperture, engineered to produce smooth, circular bokeh — exactly what portrait photographers seek when rendering background defocus.

Autofocus and Performance

The lens employs a quiet stepping motor (STM) for autofocus operation, ensuring quick and discreet performance. It supports Fujifilm’s eye detection and subject tracking modes, not just for humans but also for animals and vehicles, expanding its usefulness beyond standard portraiture. With a minimum focusing distance of 0.75 m, it allows photographers to get close enough for tighter compositions while maintaining pleasing proportions.

Extra Details

Although 75mm is a relatively uncommon focal length, it has been gaining traction in recent years as manufacturers explore alternatives to the classic 85mm field of view. TTArtisan positions this version as an elegant middle ground: long enough for compression and subject isolation, yet compact and lightweight compared to many traditional portrait lenses.

Every copy of the lens ships with a metal lens hood, and users can take advantage of a discreet USB-C port for convenient, at-home firmware updates, extending its long-term usability.

Most striking of all, the new X Mount edition is priced at only $199, a figure that undercuts many competitors while offering full autofocus, solid metal construction, and portrait-ready optics.
